ETSN.fm Class 3A Preseason Poll: No. 2 Waskom

Waskom took a few graduation hits from its 2013 Class 2A state semifinalist team, but those graduations might go unnoticed once District 8-3A Division II gets underway.

With a four-horsemen running consortium returning, the Wildcats can enter 2014 eyeing the 3A Division II title and the program already has deep postseason experience to lean on.

Quarterback Trace Carter, fullback Dillon Benton as well as running backs Kevin Johnson and June Bug Johnson all rushed for more than 1,100 yards last season and the group combined for 59 touchdowns on the ground.

That's not a bad place to start.

Waskom's defensive backfield also is more than respectable with Trey Stephens and Kileon Johnson patrolling the skies.

Make no mistake. This team has reloaded and leads all of the Division II, Region II squads in terms of offensive production this season. The benchmark for this team is a regional championship.

District 8-3A Division II does pose some threats though. Arp is the No. 6 team in our poll.

Elysian Fields, Frankston, New Diana, Troup, West Rusk and a Winona program that could pop to the forefront as early as this season all present challenges.

Waskom will prepare for the league run against Center, Paul-Pewitt and Hughes Springs in the season's first three weeks.

Paul-Pewitt and Hughes Springs also are ranked in the poll, so the Wildcats should get a good feel for who they are immediately.
