Paul Pewitt looks like it's in for a fight against Hughes Springs, ETSN.fm's Class 3A Preseason Poll's No. 10 team, as well as Hooks and Queen City for a District 7-3A Division II crown.

That being said, the Brahmas look like they have an edge that can push them over the top.

Take for instance quarterback and defensive back Isaiah Porter. He ran for nearly 1,000 yards last season and recorded 24 all-purpose touchdowns while being near the top in team tackles with 60.

Porter also picked off opponents three times in his junior campaign.

The team as a whole is a half-and-half mix. There are 11 returning starters and 15 returning lettermen to 14 players lost to graduation.

Paul Pewitt took Arp to the wire in the opening round of last year's Class 2A Division II playoffs before falling in double overtime, 34-28. The Brahma's 2014 season gets underway with a rematch of that game.

Head coach Reggie Kumrow wasn't shy about putting his team against the best. Paul Pewitt's non-district slate also features Waskom, Jefferson, New Boston and Mineola.

That could be the edge the team needs to begins district play. An Oct. 24 meeting with Hughes Springs at the Mustangs' place could be for all the district marbles and a pass around the likes of Waskom and Arp in the bi-district round.
