It's not often Gilmer doesn't win its district.

The Buckeyes have had one season in which they didn't reach double digit victories since 2003. They went 9-4 that year.

But in 2017 a new district champion was crowned. Pleasant Grove upended Gilmer 41-38 on its own field, its first home district loss since 2001. Gilmer will undoubtedly be looking to retake its claim on the district this season.

The Buckeyes will have speedy running back Bran Webb back after a 1,000-yard season a year ago. He'll run behind an offensive line that features junior Devon King, who is already garnering the attention of several FBS schools. Tra Fluellen and Parker Hobbs will serve as the primary targets for Cade Camp, who takes over at quarterback following the graduation of Aaron "Poppy" Brown.

Gilmer will be strong on defense, too. Abel Euceda leads the defensive line after a 106-tackle, four-sack effort in 2017. Fluellen joins the secondary and several other playmakers return.

Gilmer will once again be near the top of not only its district, but 4A as a whole. Expect another double-digit victory season for the Buckeyes, who will have to fight Pleasant Grove for the top spot in District 6-4A D-II.
