Five East Texans Compete in National Football All-Star Games Over the Weekend
A quintet of East Texas' best senior football players showcased their skills in three different national all-star games during the past few days.
Nacogdoches center Jacob Bragg played for Team Nitro in Thursday's Under Armour All-American Game at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla. The 6 foot-4, 311-pound Bragg, who is committed Kansas, played well in a 31-21 Nitro loss to Team Highlight.
Three East Texans helped the West beat the East 28-6 in Saturday's U.S. Army All-American Bowl at San Antonio's Alamodome.
Mount Pleasant receiver K.D. Cannon (committed to Baylor) caught three passes for a game-high 65 yards and also recorded a 17-yard punt return. Liberty-Eylau athlete Davion Hall, another Baylor receiver commitment who played safety in Saturday's contest, sealed the win with a fourth-quarter interception. Jasper center Terrell Cuney, who is committed to Texas, helped the West outgain the East 311-131, including a 237-113 passing edge.
Longview defensive tackle Zaycoven Henderson played in Sunday evening's Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl Game at the StubHub Center in Carson, Calif. The 6-foot-1, 300-pound Henderson, who will enroll at Texas in the coming days, earned his team's leadership award during the weekend's festivities. Henderson then anchored a defensive front that helped the West build a 28-0 first-half lead en route to a 34-28 victory.
