Franklin Stays Unbeaten With 28-20 Win Over Defending State Finalist Newton

HENDERSON -- Franklin moved to 13-0 on the season with a 28-20 win over Newton on Friday in a Class 3A Division II regional playoff at Lion Stadium.

Franklin will face Crockett -- a 49-24 winner over Corrigan-Camden on Friday night -- in the state quarterfinal round at a time and site to be determined.

Franklin broke a 14-14 tie after halftime by returning the first kick of the second half for a touchdown, and the Lions never lost the lead.

Newton ended its season at 8-5, a year after reaching the state championship game.
