EMORY -- Garrett Walker was one batter shy of recording an abridged perfect game Friday in Van's 12-0 victory against Emory Rains.

The starting pitcher earned a no-hitter instead and fanned six batters in the five-inning game.

Christian Cole led the Vandals with a 3-for-4 night at the plate, including a grand slam.

Cooper Bledsoe, Brett Doring and Jacob Tobias all recorded two hits.

Van will host Canton at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

 

Mason Huffines Helps Elkhart Past Westwood

PALESTINE -- Starting pitcher Mason Huffines hit a grand slam in the top of the seventh and that was the difference maker in Elkhart's 8-6 win against Palestine Westwood.

Huffines also laid the groundwork. He held Westwood to two runs through four innings on a 50-pitch limit imposed by the Elk's coaching staff.

Lane Lisiecki relieved Huffines on the mound and pitched scoreless fifth and sixth frames.

Westwood clawed back in it with four runs in the bottom seventh, but Colton Frazier earned a save in relief of Lisiecki with two strikeouts. Both pitchers were on the bump for two runs.

Elkhart will host Crockett on Tuesday. Westwood visits Buffalo.

 

Carthage Crushes Henderson

HENDERSON -- Carthage kept ahead of the District 19-4A pack with a 19-0 win at Henderson.

Starting pitcher Cole Clinton's perfect game was broken up in the fifth inning, but he finished the run-rule shortened game with a one-hit shutout.

Jarod Blissett hit a grand slam and a two run double in the game.

Micah Templeton recorded two hits and four RBIs, Cagan Baldree had two doubles and Hunter Townsend also doubled.

Carthage will square off with Center on Friday.

 

Center Drops Tatum

TATUM -- Center remained one game back of Carthage for the lead in District 19-4A with a 7-0 win against Tatum.

Jacob Mitchell allowed two hits and a walk in a complete game win. He struck out 11 batters.

TCU signee Dalton Horton led the Roughriders at the plate with a 3-for-4 game and three RBIs.

Zak Hambright threw 161 pitches in 6 2/3 innings for Tatum in the loss.

Center visits Kilgore today at 2 p.m. Tatum travels to Rusk on Tuesday.

 

 Hemphill Routs Woodville

HEMPHILL -- Zach Hogan picked up his fourth district win and Hemphill cruised to a 12-2 victory against Woodville.

Hogan only had to throw 81 pitches.

Ethan Aulds batted 3-for-3, scored three runs and batted in another four.

Hemphill hosts Tatum on Tuesday. Woodville simultaneously hosts Garrison.
