TEXARKANA -- Spencer Barton and Dezmond Chumley had two hits apiece to lead Longview to an 8-2 win against Arkansas High on Friday at the Texas High Challenge.

Reid Russell knocked in two runs, while Barton and Chumley joined Alex Clark with one RBI apiece. Tre Allen, Judson Murray, Jared Pauley, Clark, and Russell each had one hit.

Alec Bradshaw got the win, striking out six and walking three while allowing a lone hit in four innings.

The win gives Longview a 5-0 record.

Hallsville Remains Perfect with Two Wins

KILGORE -- Hallsville pushed its record to 8-0 in the young season with 9-4 victories against Queen City and Carthage on Friday at the Oil Belt Classic at Driller Park.

Hallsville is the only team to beat Carthage this season. The loss gives the Bulldogs a 6-2 record entering two games Saturday: 4:45 p.m. vs. Queen City and 7 o'clock vs. Kilgore.

Hallsville plays Tyler Lee, which improved to 6-1 with Friday's 12-9 win against Pine Tree, at 12:15 p.m. Saturday at Driller Park.

Nacogdoches Wins Twice at Oil Belt Tourney

KILGORE -- Nacogdoches got a 12-strikeout performance from Patrick Ledet, who shut out Pleasant Grove in a 4-0 on Friday at the Oil Belt Classic.

Ledet limited the defending Class 3A state champions to three hits.

Nacogdoches also beat Kilgore 5-4. The Dragons play Tyler Lee at 2:30 p.m. Saturday to conclude their Oil Belt Classic schedule.

Gladewater Remains Unbeaten with Two Tournament Victories

LONGVIEW -- Gladewater continued its torrid start to the 2013 season, beating Benton (Ark.) and North Little Rock (Ark.) at the Texas Two-Step Tournament at Longview's Lear Park.

Gladewater beat Benton 6-5 and NLR 3-2 to improve to 17-0 on the season.

The Lady Bears play Pine Tree at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the tournament.

Winnsboro Tops Grand Saline in 14-2A Opener

WINNSBORO -- Senior Brenda Jongsma yielded one run on four hits in a complete-game effort to lead Winnsboro to a 6-1 District 14-2A-opening victory Friday.

Jongsma kept Grand Saline scoreless the final six innings. Freshman leadoff hitter Kasey Thomas hit a leadoff home run on the game's first pitch. Two batters later, senior Danielle Gregory blasted a two-run bomb for a 3-1 lead after an inning.

Winnsboro (10-2-1, 1-0) scored two third-inning runs and added one in the sixth for the five-run victory margin.

Four Players Get Two Hits Apiece in Edgewood's Win Over Commerce

COMMERCE -- Edgewood opened District 14-2A play with a 13-8 win at Commerce on Friday.

Cheyenne Stone, Jenna Harper, Chelsie Foster, and Hannah Jameson had two hits apiece. Jameson drove in two runs and scored two, while Foster had an RBI and scored three runs. Harper drove in one run and stole one base. Stone doubled once and scored once.

Rachel Deen got the win in the circle for Edgewood (11-4, 1-0), striking out four and walkings two. Only five of the eight runs were earned.

Edgewood hosts Avery on Saturday in a non-district matchup.
