VAN -- The Athens Hornets continued their hot start to the season with a pair of wins Friday at the Van Tournament, improving to 7-0 on the year.

Athens took a 95-46 win over Chapel Hill and followed that up with a 95-56 rout of Teague.

Anthony Sanders poured in 39 points to lead the Hornets against Chapel Hill. Ryan Jefferson added 18 points and six assists, while Courtland Lyons finished with 10. Josh Garrett finished with three points and 14 rebounds.

Sanders led the way for Athens against Teague as well with 23 points. Jefferson contributed 16 points, Nikell Roberts had 12, Lyons had 11 points and six assists, Pedro Alanis finished with 11 points, Travon Fuller chipped in with eight points, seven assists and five steals, while Kynden Crist managed six points, six assists and six steals.

Athens also won twice on Thursday in Van -- a 70-46 defeat of Liberty-Eylau and a 71-60 win over Douglass, which is ranked No. 7 in Class A Division II in the latest Texas Association of Basketball Coaches poll.

Marshall Collects Two Wins in Huntington

HUNTINGTON -- The Marshall Mavericks ran their record to 8-0 on the season with two victories at the Huntington Tournament on Friday.

Marshall defeated Palestine Westwood by a score of 74-39 and took down San Augustine -- ranked No. 10 in Class A Division I by the TABC -- by a final count of 66-22.

Tiandre Jackson-Young led Marshall against Westwood with 20 points. Gerad Williams added 14 points, Shimar Jones had 10 points and Chris Brown dished out 14 assists.

In the win over San Augustine, Jay McKnight led the way with 16 points. Jackson-Young contributed 15 points, while Williams finished with 10.

Gary Tops West Rusk

GARY -- Gary remained perfect on the season with a 48-39 win over West Rusk on Friday.

Colton Coleman led Gary (7-0) with 28 points. Josh Bowen finished with 10 points, while Cody Bridges had nine.

Gary returns to action Tuesday at home against Broaddus. West Rusk plays host to Tyler Bishop Gorman also on Tuesday.

Canton Stuns Third-Ranked Bullard

CANTON -- The Canton Eaglettes upset third-ranked Bullard 49-36 on Friday at the Canton Tournament.

Kassidy Wilkerson led Canton (8-1) with 15 points, while Holly Raitz added 11.

Bridgette Taylor's 11 points paced Bullard (13-2) in defeat. Lexi Kirgan chipped in with 10 points.

No. 21 Winona Rolls Past Marshall

WINONA -- The Winona Lady Wildcats continued their winning ways with a 68-39 rout of Marshall on Friday at the Winona Tournament.

Kawaii Gordon led Winona (10-0) with 25 points and 19 rebounds. Jamece Gully added 16 points, six boards and six steals, Darrisha Crawford had nine points and four rebounds, while Shay Virgil chimed in with five points and 10 boards.

Other scores Friday from the Winona Tournament were: White Oak 25, Sabine 22; Marshall 55, Winona JV 15; John Tyler JV 42, Rusk 40; Rusk JV 40, Tyler Lee JV 17.

No. 2 Martin's Mill Wins Twice in Winnsboro

WINNSBORO -- The second-ranked Martin's Mill Lady Mustangs scored a pair of victories on Friday at the Winnsboro Tournament.

Martin's Mill (10-1) defeated Mineola 61-40 and took down host Winnsboro -- ranked No. 9 in Class 2A by the TABC -- by a score of 34-31.

Cheyenne Brown paced Martin's Mill against Mineola with 16 points. Madi Daniel added 12 points, while Hailey Celsur and Alyssa Pate finished with eight points apiece.

Brown led the way in the Lady Mustangs' three-point win over Winnsboro with 24 points. Daniel chipped in with eight.

Martin's Mill also won twice on Thursday in Winnsboro, collecting wins over Mount Vernon and Sulphur Springs.

Hughes Springs Downs Karnack

HUGHES SPRINGS -- The Hughes Springs Lady Mustangs scored a 38-18 win over Karnack on Friday at the Hughes Springs Tournament.

Destiny Gonzales led the way with 14 points. Breanne Gunn added seven rebounds, two assists and two steals, Dashe Hutten collected eight boards and KaJza Murphy contributed four rebounds, two assists and four steals.

Hughes Springs improved to 5-3 on the season with the win.

Gary Blasts Marshall Academy

GARY -- Gary breezed to a 55-21 win over Marshall Academy on Friday.

Amber Gage paced Gary with 26 points. Meagan Sewell added eight points, one block and one steal, Ryley Beckham had six points, six boards and 15 assists and Erin McClelland finished with six points and six rebounds.

Gary hosts Ore City on Tuesday.
