LONGVIEW -- The Longview Lobos opened the District 15-5A season with a 56-38 defeat of crosstown rival Pine Tree at the Pirate Center on Friday afternoon.

Antwone Anthony led the Lobos (9-7, 1-0) with 18 points. Kyle Shields added 13 points, while Antonio Carter finished with 10 points in the winning effort.

Pine Tree (8-8, 0-1) was led in defeat by Joel Best's nine points. Mason Hays and Joseph Moore provided seven points apiece.

Both teams are back in action at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Longview hosts Greenville, while Pine Tree entertains Marshall.

 

Edgewood Rolls Past Harmony

HARMONY -- The Edgewood Bulldogs scored an 87-48 rout of Harmony in their District 14-3A opener on Friday.

Trent Phelps led the way for Edgewood (1-0 in 14-3A) with 25 points, which included four of his team's eight 3-pointers. Trey Erwin added 14 points, while Christian Davison finished with 13 points in the winning effort.

Harmony (7-9, 0-1) got 13 points from Bentley Miner and 12 from Dalton Brenner in the loss.

Both teams continue their seasons at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Edgewood plays hosts to Grand Saline, while Harmony is home against Winona.

 

GIRLS

No. 16 Bullard Lights It Up Against Henderson

BULLARD -- The 16th-ranked Bullard Lady Panthers connected on 10 3-pointers in a 66-31 rout of Henderson in non-district action Friday.

Lexi Kirgan paced Bullard (20-5) with 17 points. Hannah Lloyd had 15 points and Lauren Zachry finished with 14, as the duo combined for eight of the team's 10 made baskets from beyond the 3-point line.

Bullard is back in action at 7 p.m. next Friday at home against Gladewater in the District 16-4A opener. Henderson opens 19-4A play at 6:30 p.m. next Friday at home against Carthage.

 

Gary Too Much For Lufkin Pineywoods

GARY -- Gary rolled to a 57-29 win over Lufkin Pineywoods Academy in non-district action Friday.

Meagan Sewell paced Gary (5-13) with 15 points, which included three 3-pointers. Erin McClelland added 13 points, Lacey McCasland had eight points and 10 rebounds, while Ryley Beckham finished with six points, three boards, seven assists and five steals.

Gary returns to the court Tuesday at Wells, while Lufkin Pineywoods (2-11) hosts Latexo the same night.
