CANTON -- The Athens Hornets continued their mastery of District 15-3A with a 77-60 win over Canton on Friday night.

Ryan Jefferson led the 10th-ranked Hornets (26-1, 9-0) with 27 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. Anthony Sanders added 21 points and 11 boards, while Courtland Lyons gave Athens three players with a double-double as he finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Kynden Crist added 7 points and 10 boards in the big win.

Athens concludes the regular season Tuesday at Van.

Tatum Blows Past Jefferson

JEFFERSON -- District 17-2A champion Tatum cruised to another win, getting big second and third quarters to pull away for an 88-55 win at Jefferson.

Tatum's Chaston Brooks had 19 points, seven rebounds, four steals, and three assists, while Klifton Willis added 19 points and three rebounds. Willis hit three three-pointers as the Eagles improved to 27-4 overall and 13-0 in 17-2A.

Tatum, which led 22-19 after one quarter, outscored Jefferson 52-32 in the middle quarters to take a 74-51 advantage to the final period. Jefferson fell to 6-7 in district.

Tatum's Martin Williams scored 16 points and grabbed five rebounds. Donovan Centers had 14 points, four steals, three rebounds, and three assists. Kyshaun Smith and Devonte Alexander each scored six points.

Jahee Johnson led Tatum with nine rebounds. JaKoby Lee had four points, five boards, and three steals. Damien Spears-Mitchell added five assists and Casey Carr had three assists.

Waskom Clinches Second Place in 17-2A

DIANA -- Four players scored in double figures to fuel Waskom's 77-32 win at New Diana, which secured second place in District 17-2A for the Wildcats.

Nigel Brown's 18 points led Waskom (13-6, 11-2), which has lost to only Tatum (twice) in 17-2A play. Chan Amie added 14 points, while Kevin Johnson netted 11. Eric Stephens III scored 10 points.

Waskom made 23 of 29 free-throw attempts.

Laneville Crushes Chireno

CHIRENO -- Tra Alexander scored 21 points, while Donta Harris assembled a big all-around game to lead Laneville to a 100-52 win at Chireno.

Harris had 19 points, nine rebounds, six assists, six steals, and made three of Laneville's 12 three-pointers, four of which came from Jakavion Polk, who scored 12 points.

Laneville's Kendrick Anderson had 17 points and three blocks, while Ty Johnson accumulated 10 points, nine rebounds, five blocks, and four steals for the Yellow Jackets, who improved to 26-6 overall and 10-1 in district. Tiarel Franklin hit two treys and finished with six points and seven assists. Anthony Roberts and Ladarius Lewis scored six points apiece.

Andrew Little scored a team-high 15 points for Chireno, which got nine points from Austin Little.

San Augustine Downs West Sabine

PINELAND -- Dez Randle's big night led San Augustine to Friday night's 78-59 victory at West Sabine.

Randle, who signed Wednesday with Trinity Valley Community College to play football, scored a game-high 31 points to lead the Wolves, who got 15 points from Jarvis Smith and 12 points from JaMikel Roberts. J.D. Brown added nine points.

The loss was West Sabine's first in district play.

The win pushed San Augustine to 24-8 overall and 8-1 in district entering Tuesday's game at Broaddus. If San Augustine beats Broaddus and West Sabine (8-1 in district) wins at Zavalla, the Wolves play the Tigers for the No. 1 playoff seed Friday at Angelina College at a time to be determined.

Pollok Central Tops Diboll

POLLOK -- Pollok Central beat Diboll 68-53 on Friday in District 20-3A action.

Central visits Center on Tuesday, while Diboll hosts Lufkin Hudson.

GIRLS

Kilgore Claims District 16-3A Title

KILGORE -- Kilgore won a defensive battle 34-25 against Bullard on Friday to secure the District 16-3A girls basketball crown.

Kilgore's win avenged a 49-44 loss at Bullard (24-7, 9-3) that came Jan. 24. The loss sealed second place in the district for the Lady Panthers.

Brittany Hinton led Bullard with 11 points, while teammate Lexi Abercrombie scored six points.

Brownsboro Beats Canton

CANTON -- Brownsboro edged Canton 47-41 on Friday in a game that decided the No. 1 girls playoff seed from District 15-3A.

Brownsboro's Briana Warren scored a game-high 15 points. M.J. Alexander followed with 11 points.

Lilly Nelson led Canton with 11 points, while Kassidy Wilkerson scored 10 points.
