Friday Softball Scores: No. 6 Gladewater Rolls + More

GRAND SALINE — The Texas Girls Coaches Association’s sixth-ranked Class 3A team rolled to a first-round win as Gladewater shut out Mabank 9-0 on Friday.

Gladewater advances to play Atlanta in the 3A Region II area round next week.

Lucas Lovejoy Sweeps Marshall

MOUNT PLEASANT — Lucas Lovejoy eliminated Marshall from the Class 4A Region II playoffs with a first-round sweep Friday at Northeast Texas Community College.

Lovejoy beat Marshall 16-0 in five innings in Game 1 before winning 11-0 in Game 2.

Lovejoy plays Whitehouse or Waxahachie in the second round. Whitehouse beat Waxahachie 4-2 in Friday’s Game 1 at Forney High School. Game 2 of that series is 3 p.m. Saturday at Forney.

Ennis Knocks Out Lindale

ENNIS — Ennis delivered a first-round knockout to Lindale on Friday in a 10-0 victory in the teams’ one-game Class 4A Region II playoff.

Ennis, ranked No. 3 by the TGCA, plays Texas High or Royse City in the second round next week. Royse City beat Texas High 3-1 in Friday’s Game 1 in Texarkana. Game 2 is 2 p.m. Saturday at Royse City.

Nacogdoches Pounds Red Oak in Game 1

ATHENS — Ki’Audra Hayter and Brittianni Phillips each hit a home run to lead Nacogdoches to a 10-1 Game 1 victory Friday against Red Oak in a Class 4A Region II first-round playoff series.

Nacogdoches’ Kylie Murdock got the win the circle.

Game 2 is 1 p.m. Saturday in Athens. The winner of the series advances to play Sulphur Springs or McKinney North next week in the second round. Sulphur Springs won 9-0 in Friday’s Game 1 in Sulphur Springs. Game 2 is 10 a.m. Saturday at McKinney North. Game 3 (if necessary) would be 7 p.m. Monday at McKinney North.

Malakoff Tops Winnsboro

MALAKOFF — Malakoff took a 1-0 series lead with a 4-1 victory over Winnsboro on Friday in a Class 2A Region II playoff series.

Game 2 is 3 p.m. Saturday at Winnsboro. If necessary, Game 3 will follow.

No. 25 Sabine Cruises Past Tatum

LONGVIEW — Sabine got a huge performance from freshman Jayden Mount in Friday’s 13-4 win against Tatum in a one-game Class 2A Region III playoff at Longview’s Lear Park.

Mount hit for the cycle, which included a two-run home run. Sabine, ranked 25th in the latest TGCA poll, plays Garrison next week in the second round.

Harmony Ousts Elysian Fields

LONGVIEW — Keirsten Seahorn went 3-for-3 with a homer and two RBIs, leading Harmony to a 7-4 win over Elysian Fields on Friday in a Class 2A Region II bi-district playoff at Lear Park.

Courtney Matulis got the win in the circle, allowing four runs on seven hits with 10 strikeouts and one walk.

Matulis, Mariah Goguen and Keeley Chamberlain all had a hit and RBI for Harmony, which advances to face Woodville next week in the area round of the playoffs.

Kaylee Prather led Elysian Fields by going 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored and a stolen base. Jacey Doyle was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, while Bailee Fry and Montanna Methvin both scored a run in the losing effort.

Paris Chisum Takes Game 1 from Hughes Springs

MOUNT PLEASANT — Paris Chisum claimed a 7-3 Game 1 win against Hughes Springs on Friday to open a Class 2A Region III first-round playoff series at Mount Pleasant High School.

Game 2 is 6 p.m. Saturday at MPHS with Game 3 to follow if necessary.

Lovelady Edges Neches

PALESTINE — Lovelady notched a walk-off win in the bottom of the seventh to beat Neches 4-3 in a one-game Class A Region III playoff at Palestine High School.

Lovelady advances to next week’s second round to face Harleton.
