BECKVILLE -- The Ladycats, ranked No.1 in the Texas Girls Coaches Association's Class 2A poll, got off to a strong start in District 9-2A with a 25-16, 25-13, 25-15 win against a good Gary team.

Beckville (25-1, 1-0) was led by Carson Blair and Kinley Blair. Both played scored seven points in the match.

Carson Blair aced four serves as part of her night, but Kimber Wesner had a team-best five aces.

Kassidy Alexander recorded a match-best 32 assists for the Ladycats. No one else on the team had an assist.

Leann Youngblood paced Gary with five kills.

 

Whitehouse Kicks 16-5A Off With Win

NACOGDOCHES -- Whitehouse comfortably won its first District 16-5A match of the season.

It Ladycats topped Nacogdoches, 25-14, 25-12, 25-16 to move to 1-0 against league competition.

Brittany Taylor led Whitehouse with 13 total points, 10 kills and three aces. Beth Hood followed closely with nine kills and three blocks.

Molly Harris led the winning side with 21 assists.

The Ladycats will be off in the midweek and resume competition Friday at Lindale. The varsity match will begin at 4:30 p.m.

 

Rains Downs Mabank

EMORY -- Rains also earned a three-set sweep Friday.

The Lady Cats took care of Mabank, 25-16, 25-11, 25-15 to elevate their record to 19-9.

Corley Cole recorded 16 blocks in the match. Ashley Gowin scored on 13 kills.

Shelbi Sheppard and Cole had good matches distributing the ball with 19 and 13 assists, respecitvely.

Charlotte Bradshaw had a team-best 17 digs in the defensive department.

Rains will host Quinlan Ford on Tuesday.
