BULLARD -- Carthage eliminated Fairfield with a 15-1 win in Game 2 of the two teams' best-of-three Class 3A Region III bi-district series.

The game, like Thursday's 10-0 win, was called after five innings.

Cole Clinton earned the win and moved to 7-1 on the mound. He pitched 5 innings and allowed just one hit with no earned runs.

Kolby Blissett batted 2-for-3 with 4 RBIs and a triple. Jarod Blissett went 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs while Micah Templeton, Tee Goree each had at least one RBI.

The Bulldogs will advance to the area round where they will meet West at times, dates and locations to be determined later this weekend.

 

Horton Pitches One-Hit Shutout 

LUFKIN -- Center kicked off its postseason with a 3-0 win against Rusk in the Class 3A Region III playoffs.

Starting pitcher Dalton Horton pitched a one-hit complete game and struck out 11 batters along the way.

The Roughriders' offense was distributed pretty evenly. Horton, Caiden Rainbolt, Ross Mahan, Jared Wiggins and Jacob Mitchell each recorded one hit.

Center and Rusk will resume their playoff series at Morris Frank Park in Lufkin, 2 p.m. today.

 

 SOFTBALL

HUNTINGTON -- Alto wiped out Dallardsville Big Sandy in a one-game playoff, 11-0.

The game ended with the run rule after the fifth inning.

Alto scored four runs in both the first and third innings and then added three more runs in the fourth.

Meanwhile, Madison Crisp threw a no-hitter with seven strikeouts.

Alto has advanced to the regional round where it will take on Zavalla in a best-of-three series. That set of games will tentatively be played at Pollock Central on May 8 and May 9.
