TYLER -- It was tough sledding for the Hallsville offense all night long, and it forced the Bobcats into a precarious situation Saturday afternoon.

Steven Pruett tossed a three-hit shutout to lead Frisco Centennial to a 3-0 win in Game 1 of their Class 5A Region II area-round playoff series Friday night at Mike Carter Field.

The resumes with Game 2 at 3 p.m. Saturday back in Tyler. Hallsville (27-5) needs two wins in order to advance to the regional quarterfinals.

Pruett, a lefty, allowed six baserunners all night and needed only 89 pitches to get through the Hallsville lineup in seven innings. He struck out six and walked one, while hitting a batter.

Centennial (21-11-2) scored once in the fourth courtesy of a Hallsville throwing error, one of three defensive miscues that plagued the Bobcats in the game.

The Titans added two more runs in the fifth on Jaxon Himel's two-out, two-run double, which was more than enough support for Pruett, who put together three perfect innings on the night.

Hallsville had a few chances throughout the course of the game.

The Bobcats stranded two runners in the second, left a runner on in the third, and had a double play kill any hope of pushing across any runs in the fifth.

Hallsville's Matt Wyman led off the seventh with a double, but Pruett retired the next three Bobcats hitters.
