Gilmer has had a long tradition of strong quarterbacks over the last several years. And if last Thursday night's performance is any indication, another Buckeyes signal-caller could be joining the club.

In his first-ever varsity game, junior Aaron "Poppy" Brown set a Gilmer school record with 577 passing yards, leading the Buckeyes to a 61-55 season-opening win over Liberty-Eylau.

For his efforts, Brown is the ETSN.fm/Dairy Queen Offensive Player of the Week.

Brown completed 37 of 47 attempts to 11 different Gilmer receivers, and passed for six touchdowns. He also added a 15-yard touchdown run in the high-scoring Week 1 affair.

The new Buckeyes QB broke the previous school record of 456 yards set by G.J. Kinne in 2006.

Three of Brown's six touchdown passes were to senior LaMarcus Morton, an Oklahoma State commit, who finished with 10 catches for 259 yards.

Brown and the Buckeyes continue their season Friday at home against Center. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
