Girls Basketball Roundup: John Tyler Tops Nacogdoches, Pittsburg and Mineola Survive + More
TYLER -- Quaneshia Johnson scored 17 points to lead the John Tyler Lady Lions past Nacogdoches, 56-50, Tuesday at the Lions Den in a battle for positioning in District 16-4A.
Tiaka Lee added 14 points for John Tyler (20-10, 5-3), which pulled even with Nacogdoches (20-11, 5-3) for second place in the district.
John Tyler returns to action Friday at Whitehouse, while Nacogdoches plays host to Lindale.
No. 18 Lindale Pulls Away From Jacksonville
LINDALE -- The 18th-ranked Lindale Lady Eagles responded from their first District 16-4A loss with a 42-32 win over Jacksonville on Tuesday.
Makenna Allen had 12 points to lead Lindale (23-5, 7-1), which outscored Jacksonville (16-15, 3-5) 17-8 in the fourth quarter. Zhanelle Geathers added 10 points for Lindale.
Jacksonville was led by Jasmine Parson's 14 points.
The Maidens return to action Friday at home against Corsicana.
No. 13 Pittsburg Scores Win Over Paris North Lamar
PARIS -- The 13th-ranked Pittsburg Lady Pirates remained perfect in District 13-3A with a 33-25 win over Paris North Lamar on Tuesday.
Meagan Peters led Pittsburg (26-4, 8-0) with nine points and nine rebounds. Cheyenne Ramey and Shakira Duffey had eight points and six boards apiece.
Pittsburg is back in action Friday at home against Paris.
No. 22 Mineola Slips Past Canton
CANTON -- The 22nd-ranked Mineola Lady Yellowjackets survived a scare from Canton, 45-39, Tuesday night in District 15-3A action.
Jordan Dawson paced Mineola (27-3, 8-0) with 18 points, while Kelsey Green added 17.
Mineola plays host to Athens on Friday, while Canton (13-16, 3-5) is at Brownsboro.
Malakoff Outlasts Kemp in Double OT
KEMP -- The Malakoff Lady Tigers scored a 46-44, double-overtime victory over Kemp on Tuesday in District 13-2A action.
Sierra Perez led Malakoff (14, 11, 9-3) with 14 points, while Plandreika Jackson added nine points and 12 rebounds. DyEsha Brookins contributed three points and 14 boards.
Malakoff returns to action at home Friday against Red Oak Life.
No. 1 Martin's Mill Rolls to Big Win At LaPoynor
LARUE -- Cheyenne Brown scored 29 points to power the top-ranked Martin's Mill Lady Mustangs to a 68-34 win over LaPoynor in District 17-A Division I action on Tuesday.
Haily Jenkins added 20 points for Martin's Mill (25-4, 10-0), while Meagan Weatherford chipped in with 10 points.
Haley Terry led LaPoynor with 12 points.
Martin's Mill returns to the court Friday at home against Big Sandy, while LaPoynor faces Beckville at home.
Beckville Edges Carlisle in 17-A Division I Battle
BECKVILLE -- The Beckville Lady Bearcats scored a 38-35 win over Carlisle on Tuesday in a District 17-A Division I matchup.
Ivy Rieke led Beckville (14-14, 3-7) with 18 points and nine rebounds. Maya Bradford produced a double-double with 10 points 10 boards.
Carlisle, which fell to 1-9 in district, resumes its season next Tuesday at LaPoynor.
