ETSN.fm has learned that Gladewater athletic director and head football coach Jerrod Baugh has resigned.

An unnamed Gladewater ISD board member confirmed to ETSN.fm's news partner KLTV 7 that Baugh's resignation was accepted at Monday night's regularly scheduled school board meeting.

Baugh was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated in January, and had been placed on administrative leave since the arrest. Defensive coordinator John Berry took over AD responsibilities during Baugh's absence.

Gladewater was 18-26 in Baugh's four seasons as head coach, including last year's 7-7 finish that resulted in the Bears' first playoff win since 2001 and a berth in the Class 3A Division II state quarterfinals where Gladewater was eliminated by eventual state champion Argyle.

The Bears, who had just five seniors on their roster in 2013, figure to be a contender this fall in the new Class 4A Division II. Defensive tackle Daylon Mack, a Texas A&M commit, anchors what will be among the area's most experienced teams in 2014.

KETKnbc.com was the first to report of Baugh's resignation.
