Henderson passed a big test last Friday with a 24-14 win over Bullard, taking control of its own playoff destiny in District 16-3A, a.k.a. the District of Doom.

The Lions (5-3, 3-1) have another big one this week against fourth-ranked Kilgore (7-0, 4-0) in a game with potentially even more at stake. A Henderson win on Friday in Kilgore can keep Henderson's hopes of sharing a district title alive.

But first thing's first.

Henderson used a powerful running game that chewed up almost 400 yards in the Lions' win over Bullard last week. Quarterback and do-everything athlete Patrick "Monster" Brown ran for 158 yards and two TDs in the win.

Kilgore, meanwhile, used its usual suffocating defense to capture a 31-2 win over Chapel Hill last week. Kilgore, which gives up just 5.3 points per game, held Chapel Hill out of the end zone and to just 179 total yards.

If Kilgore wins, it will at least ensure the Bulldogs a chance to win the district championship. Kilgore can actually wrap up the district title with a win and a Gilmer loss to Bullard.
