In the previous two seasons, the Henderson Lions set single-season passing records thanks to the play of state-champion quarterback Del Barnes.

With this graduation, Henderson was looking for the next in line to continue the trend. Instead, a midseason QB switch has completely changed the Lions' identity on offense.

Henderson is still in the spread, but has become a power running team led by dynamic athlete Patrick "Monster" Brown at quarterback.

But in last Friday's 64-35 playoff win over Celina, senior running back Diamante Wright emerged with perhaps Henderson's best individual performance of the season.

Wright rushed for 293 yards and three touchdowns to earn ETSN.fm Dairy Queen Offensive Player of the Week honors. Wright produced 126 yards alone in the first quarter, then scored three touchdowns in Henderson's 48-point second half to help the Lions come back from a 20-16 halftime deficit.

For the season, Wright has rushed for 1,259 yards and 16 touchdowns. Right behind him is Brown with 1,256 yards and 19 TDs.

Henderson (9-4) faces District 16-3A rival Gilmer (12-1) at 7 p.m. Friday at Longview's Lobo Stadium for the Class 3A Division II Region II championship.
