Henderson’s Lakendrick VanZandt Offered By Southern Miss

Henderson senior Lakendrick VanZandt has been committed to TCU for months, but that hasn't stopped other schools from pursuing the Lions' standout.

VanZandt (6-1, 196) announced via Twitter than he picked up an offer from Southern Miss on Friday.

The Lions' playmaker was the second East Texas recruit to be offered by Southern Miss on Friday, joining Arp 2018 ATH DeMarvion Overshown.

Southern Miss, located in Hattiesburg, Miss., competes in Conference USA. The Golden Eagles are coached by Jay Hopson, and are coming off a 7-6 season in 2016. The campaign ended with a 28-21 win over Louisiana-Lafayette in the New Orleans Bowl on Dec. 17.

VanZandt enjoyed a huge senior season at running back for Henderson, which finished 11-2 in 2016 and reached the Class 4A Division I regional semifinals.

He ripped off 1,582 yards and 21 touchdowns on the ground, including a career-best 255 yards in Henderson's 33-31 playoff loss to rival Carthage.

VanZandt, like all college football prospects currently in their senior year of high school, will become eligible to sign with any program that offers him on Feb. 1.
