Houston Offers Longview’s JaMycal Hasty

Almost 200 high school football players converged on the Tyler Junior College campus for Friday's Houston Cougar football camp.

One of those players -- Longview 2015 running back JaMycal Hasty -- wound up with an offer.

Hasty tweeted the news of his offer shortly after Friday's camp. The Cougars are the fifth team to offer the junior tailback, joining Baylor, TCU, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech.

The 5-foot-9, 181-pound Hasty has repeatedly performed at an elite level at camps and combines all spring and summer. The ETSN.fm Football Recruiting Combine on May 19 at APEC training facility saw Hasty run the fastest 40-yard dash (4.39 seconds) of the event's 100 participants. He also had an 8.87-second ladder time and earned top running back honors and overall Offensive MVP recognition.

Hasty's best game of his sophomore season was a 16-carry, 102-yard performance in relief of an injured Tory White in Longview's 57-25 second-round rout of Dallas Jesuit. Hasty finished the season with 338 rushing yards and five touchdowns and is expected to have a huge junior season behind what may be Longview's largest offensive line in veteran coach John King's 10-year tenure.

Houston has offered four East Texans in the 2014 football class: Mount Pleasant receiver K.D. Cannon, Pine Tree quarterback/athlete Caleb Chumley, Whitehouse quarterback Patrick Mahomes (committed to Texas Tech), and Newton running back/athlete Kevin Shorter.
