WHITEHOUSE -- Whitehouse coach Ryan Tomlin said that despite a dip in his scoring production, Jake Parker was still a vital part of his team.

Parker's scoring prowess returned just in time for the Wildcats' District 16-4A opener.

The junior scored a team-high 24 points with five rebounds, four assists and two steals to lead Whitehouse to a 79-57 win over Corsicana on Friday night.

"Jake has not been playing bad all year, but he hasn't scored like he did last year," Tomlin said. "He handles the ball, he rebounds phenomenally. But it was nice to see him come out a little bit offensively, which for him makes his confidence go up."

Patrick Mahomes added 20 points, three boards, five assists and four steals for Whitehouse (17-5, 1-0), which pulled away from Corsicana (19-5, 0-1) in the fourth quarter to seal the win. Spencer Shaw chimed in with 14 points.

"That's what want to do, we want to win them all at home for sure in this district," Tomlin said. "Corsicana's a good team, they're going to make some noise in this district. They got hot and we just had to weather the storm."

Mike Lewis' 3-pointer cut the Whitehouse lead to 62-55 early in the fourth quarter, one of six 3's on the night for Lewis, who led the Tigers with 24 points.

But Whitehouse closed the game on a 17-2 run, in which Parker torched the Tigers for eight points.

"Lately I haven't been very energetic, but in this game I really needed to come out and energize my teammates," Parker said.

Dzifa Moffat had 16 points in the losing effort for Corsicana.

Whitehouse returns to action Tuesday night at John Tyler.
