BULLARD -- Quarterback Jake Smith threw for 247 yards and three touchdowns to lead an undefeated Tyler Bishop Gorman to a 28-3 TAPPS District 2 Division II win over Bullard Brook Hill on Friday night.

The Guard defense gave the Crusaders a blow-for-blow battle for the first half, but two Crusaders interceptions foiled two Guard possible scoring drives.

Brook Hill’s defense stood strong early on as Guard linebacker Fletcher Campbell recovered a fumble by Gorman on fourth-and-goal from the Brook Hill 3-yard line to turn back an early Gorman bid for a score.

Gorman finally got on the board in the second quarter, though, when receiver Isaiah Haggerty grabbed a 12-yard Smith pass, and the PAT was good for a 7-0 lead at the break.

The Crusaders came out with a different approach and didn't waste any time in putting points on the board.

A four-play drive that included a 48-yard completion to Haggerty set up the next score, and it was Haggerty on the receiving end of a 10-yard strike. The next Alex Quintero PAT kick was again good, which gave Gorman a 14-0 cushion.

The Guard answered, however, after a great kickoff return from John Dixson started Brook Hill at its own 49-yard line. After a few first downs, the Crusaders defense tightened up to force Brook Hill to go for a field goal.

The Guard then got their only score on a 26-yard field goal from Campbell Fletcher, which made the score 14-3 going into the final quarter.

After a slow ground game all night, Bishop Gorman's Jeremiah Milton raced 36 yards to pay dirt just three plays into the final period.

Milton finished with 81 yards on nine carries and the touchdown. He would have scored again, but he fumbled in the end zone after a 10-yard run. But Daniel Schmidt was there to recover and give the Crusaders their final score of the game.

For the Guard, Garrett Davis caught seven passes for 90 yards, and Jeremiah McGowen was held to 33 yards on 13 carries. Quarterback Greyson Preistner was 12 of 25 for 110 yards. Tylerl Hobbs and Chris Jones had the two Crusaders interceptions.

Haggerty finished with six catches for 99 yards and two touchdowns for Bishop Gorman (6-0, 2-0), which plays host to Dallas Christian next Friday night. Bullard Brook Hill (3-3, 1-1) is off next week.
