JASPER -- Jasper owned an 18-point lead against Tatum at the break and did not relent in the second half to take control of the race for first place in District 8-4A Division II.

Running back Kellian Weathered scored three times as part of a 21-7 run in the second quarter, which gave Jasper a 35-17 lead at the break. He ran in scores from 31 and 48 yards and also caught a 33-yard pass from quarterback Leontay Sells in the span.

Tatum scored once in the second half on a 63-yard Cedric White run, but Jasper also got a second-half touchdown.

A Ty Ellis pick-six ended the Eagles' first possession and opened scoring for Jasper (6-2, 2-0) . Tatum (6-3, 2-1) got that one back on a 79-yard bomb Jachias Jackson hauled in on the first play of the ensuing drive.

But Sells connected Lorenzo Thomas later in the first quarter and Tatum only responded with a field goal before giving up the run.

The Bulldogs' win pushed Tatum into a second-place tie with Diboll in the district standings.

Jasper will host Huntington next Friday. The Eagles will enjoy their open date before resuming play Nov. 4 with Huntington.
