Jasper’s Cody Mitchell Commits to Louisiana-Lafayette

The time came for Jasper's Cody Mitchell to cement his future plans, as the 2016 tight ended offered up his verbal commitment to Louisiana-Lafayette on Saturday afternoon.

Mitchell (6-5, 225), who also had offers from Illinois, Louisiana Tech, Missouri, and Texas State, announced the decision via his personal Twitter account.

The Jasper native became the 15th East Texan in the 2016 recruiting class to make his college plans known. Mitchell joins Newton linebacker Tanner Holmes as the second player from the region to pledge to the Ragin' Cajuns.

ULL competes in the Sun Belt Conference and is coached by Mark Hudspeth. The Ragin' Cajuns were 1-1 headed into Saturday's home game vs. Akron.

Jasper is off to a 2-3 start to the season. The Bulldogs earned a 42-21 win over Splendora on Friday night in the District 10-4A Division I opener.
