Jefferson’s Eric Gipson Commits to Texas State
It's that time of the year.
Commitments are starting to roll in from players in the 2019 class. Jefferson linebacker Eric Gipson is the latest to pledge his commitment, posting via Twitter on Friday that he will play football at Texas State next season.
Gipson (6-1, 190) also has three Division I FCS offers from Arkansas-Pine Bluff, McNeese State, and Northwestern State
Last season, Gipson was a force along the defensive front for Jefferson. He finished his junior season with 137 tackles (25 for loss) with 10 sacks, two forced fumbles, and an interception.
Jefferson was 10-2 last season, reaching the area round of the Class 3A Division I playoffs.
Gipson took both Defensive Line and Overall Defensive MVP at the ETSN/APEC combine on May 20. Most notably, he ran an event-best 4.43-second 40-yard dash.
Texas State competes in the Sun Belt Conference. The Bobcats are coached by Everett Withers and are coming off a 2-10 season in 2017.
Gipson, like all incoming seniors, is first eligible to sign with any program that offers him in December.
