The first Division I scholarship offer arrived Thursday for Jefferson 2019 defensive end Eric Gipson.

The Bulldogs' defender announced via Twitter that McNeese State has offered.

Gipson (6-2, 205) was a force along the defensive front for Jefferson in 2017. He finished his junior season with 137 tackles (25 for loss) with 10 sacks, two forced fumbles, and an interception.

Jefferson was 10-2 last season, reaching the area round of the Class 3A Division I playoffs.

McNeese State is an FCS school that competes in the Southland Conference. The Cowboys are coached by Lance Guidry and were 9-2 overall and 7-2 in league play a season ago.

Gipson, like all juniors, is first eligible to sign with any program that offers him in December.
