NACOGDOCHES -- The John Tyler Lions scored an easy 79-51 win over Nacogdoches on Friday night in the District 16-4A opener for both teams.

Jordan Caldwell led the Lions (7-12, 1-0) with 14 points, while Isaac Warren had 13 and Greg Ward had 12.

JT broke open a 10-point game by outscoring the Dragons (11-8, 0-1), 25-8, in the third quarter to build a 60-33 lead entering the final period.

Austin Willeford led Nacogdoches with 13 points.

John Tyler returns to action Tuesday night at home against Whitehouse, while Nacogdoches travels to Lindale.

Lady Dragons Roll Past JT to Stay Perfect in District

Ki'Audra Hayter scored 23 points to lead the Nacogdoches Lady Dragons past John Tyler, 79-65, earlier on Friday.

Nacogdoches improved to 17-8 and 3-0 in District 16-4A, while JT fell to 16-10 and 1-2.

Christy Whitaker added 18 points, Charity Page registered 16 and Justice Lockett provided 13 for the Lady Dragons.

Tiaka Lee led JT with 21 points, while Quaneshia Johnson added 19 and Tameal Jones had 12 in the losing effort.
