John Tyler, Jacksonville + Mount Pleasant Aim for State Berths at Saturday’s Midlothian 7-on-7 Football State Qualifier Tournament
Three East Texas teams get their final shots at state berths this weekend when Midlothian hosts a 7-on-7 football state qualifier tournament Saturday.
Jacksonville, John Tyler, and Mount Pleasant try for Division I spots Saturday after falling in previous state qualifier tournaments. John Tyler reached the semifinals of the June 15 SQT at Tyler's Lindsey Park before losing 26-13 to Longview.
The Lions did not get out of pool play in the June 22 SQT at Rowlett, going 1-2. Jacksonville went 1-2 in pool play at the June 15 SQT at Lindsey Park.
Mount Pleasant won its pool before falling 48-40 to Lewisville Hebron in the semifinals of the June 3 Frisco Liberty SQT.
The Midlothian event will include a fifth pool for state qualifiers, including Tyler Lee, which joins Longview, Lufkin, and Whitehouse as East Texas' D-I state qualifiers. Lee won its pool at the June 15 SQT in Tyler before edging Lindale 27-20 in the semifinals to claim a state berth.
The Division I state tournament is July 12-13 at Southwest Williamson County Regional Park in Leander.
