TYLER –– The John Tyler Lions finished unbeaten in District 7-5A Division I with a 45-13 win over Sherman on Friday night.

John Tyler (7-2, 6-0) was in control from the start, taking a 21-0 lead early in the first half.

The Lions used an effective, well-balanced attack through out the first half, and shut Sherman (4-6, 3-3) down on defense.

John Tyler took a commanding 42-6 lead into halftime.

The Lions spent the majority of the second half utilizing their ground game, using seven different rushers throughout the game.

Devlen Woods was 11 of 16 for 202 yards and three touchdowns through the air. Woods also had 70 yards on the ground, including a 32-yard touchdown.

Roderick Hawkins Jr. carried the ball eight times for 75 yards.

The Lions will play host to Tomball (6-4), the fourth-place team from District 8-5A Division I, next Friday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m
