Kansas Extends Offer to Lufkin’s Erik McCoy

The recruitment of Lufkin 2015 offensive lineman Erik McCoy is beginning to pick up steam, and the positive momentum continued Tuesday when the Panthers' incoming senior picked up his sixth Division I FBS offer.

McCoy (6-4, 297) tweeted that he received an offer from Kansas early Tuesday night, giving the prospect his second offer from a power conference. He recently picked up an offer from Oklahoma State, and holds other invitations from Arkansas State, Houston, North Texas and ULL.

Kansas gave McCoy its first offer to an East Texas recruit in either the 2015 or 2016 class. The Jayhawks signed Nacogdoches' offensive lineman Jacob Bragg back in February.

With the summer camp season approaching, McCoy figures to get even more offers leading into his senior season. He was named OL MVP at the Houston Nike Football Training Combine earlier this month.

Kansas, coached by former New England Patriots offensive coordinator and Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis, is looking to improve on last season's performance, which resulted in a 3-9 overall and 1-8 conference record.

McCoy will be an integral piece to Lufkin's team this fall, protecting returning quarterback Trey Cumbie and opening up holes for running back Steven Sowell.

The Panthers, which finished 5-6 last year and qualified for the playoffs for the 16th consecutive season, will compete in the new District 16-5A in 2014 along with Corsicana, Ennis, Jacksonville, John Tyler, Lindale, Nacogdoches and Whitehouse.
