Henderson's Trestan Ebner became the sixth East Texas recruit in the 2017 class to receive a Division I FBS offer when Kansas extended a scholarship opportunity, the Lions' standout announced via Twitter.

Ebner (5-11, 180) also became the third regional recruit in his class to pick up an offer from Kansas, as he joined John Tyler receiver Damion Miller and Hooks WR/S Montrell Estell, who received his KU offer earlier in the week.

Kansas, which has been among the worst FBS programs in the country over the last few seasons, is hoping to turn things around under first-year coach David Beaty, who is returning to the Jayhawks after serving as Texas A&M's receivers coach since 2012.

Beaty is quite familiar with the Lone Star State, having been a high school coach in Texas from 1994-2005. He was the head coach at North Dallas in 2001, before spending the next four seasons at Irving MacArthur prior to his ascension to the college ranks.

Kansas was 3-9 in 2014 and has not produced a winning season since 2008.

Ebner was an integral member of Henderson's 2014 District 9-3A Division I championship team, leading the Lions with 40 catches for 919 yards and 11 touchdowns. He was also a playmaker on the defensive side of the ball, registering 97 tackles with four interceptions and five passes broken up from the safety spot.

The Lions' incoming junior was among the 113 athletes who participated in the third annual ETSN.fm + APEC Football Recruiting Combine in Tyler last Sunday. After a strong testing session in the morning, Ebner delivered an excellent performance during one-on-one drills in the afternoon.

Henderson brings back Ebner and a few other talented weapons in 2015 in the hopes of building upon the Lions' 11-3 season in 2014, which ended with a 34-14 loss to eventual Class 4A Division I state champion Navasota in the state quarterfinals.

Henderson begins the season Aug. 28 at home against Athens.
