Facing one of East Texas' most potent offenses, LaDarrin Anthony and the Kilgore defense delivered.

Anthony spearheaded a front four that terrorized Mount Pleasant's passing game the entire evening resulting in 10 sacks in a 48-20 rout of the Tigers on Friday night at R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium.

Anthony is the ETSN.fm/Dairy Queen Defensive Player of the Week after recording 13 tackles, five for loss, three sacks, and one forced fumble in the 28-point victory.

The 6-foot, 257-pound defensive lineman led Kilgore (3-0) in sacks as a junior, when he finished with 114 tackles, 24 for loss, 12 sacks, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, one kick block, and one punt block as the Bulldogs went 11-2 and reached the Class 3A Division I state semifinals.

Through three games of his senior campaign, Anthony has 28 tackles, nine for loss, four sacks, one forced fumble, and six quarterback hurries. Anthony leads Kilgore in tackles for loss and is second in tackles and sacks.

His consistent pressure also helped his teammates get free for seven more sacks Friday night. In fact, Caleb Wood led the Bulldogs with 3 1/2 sacks, in addition to his nine tackles. Kris Haynes, D.Q. Scott, and Jacobie Wafer had one sack apiece, while Chris Powe added half of a sack.

Kilgore safety Jake Brantley had a Player of the Week-caliber game himself. The senior, who moved to the secondary after playing linebacker last season, recorded 10 tackles and was responsible for three turnovers thanks to his two interceptions and one fumble recovery.

A week after scoring 77 points in a 43-point rout of Terrell, Mount Pleasant didn't eclipse 280 total yards against Kilgore. Grubbs was the ETSN.fm/Dairy Queen Offensive Player of the Week after the Terrell game, when he threw for almost 500 yards and nine touchdowns. Kilgore limited Mount Pleasant to 165 passing yards and 112 rushing yards Friday night.

Anthony and the vaunted Bulldog defense start District 16-3A play Friday night at Spring Hill.
