Late Sherman Rally Ends Texas High’s Season, 40-23

PARIS — Sherman's march through the Class 4A Division I playoffs continued Friday at Wildcat Stadium, but it took a late attack by the Wildcats to get it done.

Sherman scored 20 points in the final 4 1/2 minutes of the game, coming from behind to defeat Texas High 40-23 and advance to next week's area round against Red Oak.

After Steve Crenshaw's third field goal of the game put Texas High up 23-20, Sherman scored in four plays, covering 60 yards. A 39-yard pass play from Dru Smith to Joseph Harvey set up Tre Mask's two-yard scoring run with 4:33 left.

An interception by linebacker Kahlee Woods on Texas High's next series gave Mask another try and he scored from 15 yards out. J.T. Luper had an interception on Texas High's next possession, setting up his own 21-yard TD pass from Smith.

The Bearcats (9-2) were held to only 14 rushing yards, but Smith threw for 248 and three touchdowns. Harvey, who had six catches for 110 yards, also booted a 46-yard field goal and a 34-yarder on the final play of the first half to give Sherman a 20-10 halftime lead.

Texas High's Tre Walker ran for 140 yards and a touchdown on 30 carries. Quarterback Kody Hunter had passing 196 yards, including an eight-yard touchdown to Ben Adams, who caught six for 83 yards.

Sherman and Red Oak, which defeated Corsicana, play at 1 p.m. Friday at Allen's Eagle Stadium.
