LONGVIEW — Class 4A Lindale swept Carthage and previously unbeaten Spring Hill in a Tuesday night tri-match at Panther Gymnasium.

Lindale's Zhanelle Geathers dominated at the net with five blocks and 20 kills as Lindale battled past Class 3A's No. 5-ranked Spring Hill in a five-game match, 25-23, 25-23, 15-25, 30-32, 15-12, which ended Spring Hill's undefeated streak at 17 matches.

Lindale beat 3A No. 15 Carthage in another five-game match earlier in the evening, 25-20, 29-27, 23-25, 22-25, 15-10.

Geathers finished her stellar evening with 33 kills and 11 blocks in the two matches. Savannah Cantrell also propelled Lindale with 22 kills, two blocks, and two digs. Travicia Acy chipped in with nine kills and eight blocks.

“We’re pretty excited about giving Spring Hill their first loss of the season,” said Lindale coach Meghan Koonce.  “We’ve just been preparing and they actually beat us out of the playoffs last year, so we were excited to come and play them. We are going to play off of this win going into the White Oak tournament this weekend.”

Lindale got off to a quick start in Game 1 against Carthage taking a 15-8 lead behind Makenna Allen’s exceptional serving.  Game 2 proved to be a battle for the Lady Eagles as Carthage Lady took them to game point four times before Lindale put it way with a kill by Geathers.

Carthage (17-7) fought back to win Games 3 and 4 to tie the match at two games apiece.  The Lady Eagles took control of Game 5 early and a kill by Cantrell secured the win for Lindale. Iesha Bryant and Marisah Ingram carried the Lady Bulldogs, combining for 19 kills and seven blocks in the contest.

Spring Hill was not out of the match yet. Behind a combined nine kills by Jacey Fleet and Savannah Voelzke, the Lady Panthers easily took Game 3 from the Lady Eagles 25-15. Game 4 went to game point seven times before the Lady Panthers stole a 32-30 victory on a Voelzke kill to even the match. In the end, the Lady Eagles were too much for the Lady Panthers as three kills and two blocks by Geathers secured the final game of the match for Lindale.
