Longview, John Tyler, Tyler Lee Fall to Consolation Bracket at the Division I 7-on-7 Football State Tournament

LEANDER — Three of the five teams East Texas sent to the Division I 7-on-7 state tournament combined for only one win in nine games Friday afternoon.

That one victory came from Longview, which concluded its pool play with a 26-14 win against Katy Cinco Ranch. But the Lobos lost their first two games 55-33 to San Antonio O’Connor and 29-27 against Purdue-committed quarterback David Blough and Carrollton Creekview.

John Tyler and Tyler Lee each went winless in Friday’s pool play.

John Tyler dropped decisions to Midlothian (25-20), Lewisville Hebron (39-26), and Houston Lamar (38-37). Lee’s scores were not as competitive as the Red Raiders lost to Plano East (46-14), DeSoto (41-19), and Cypress Falls (46-19).

Longview’s Chris Pellum caught two touchdowns in the two-point loss to Creekview. Teammates Jordan Whitaker and Jon Sorey each caught one touchdown.

Longview, JT, and Lee play at 8 a.m. Saturday in the Division I consolation bracket. Longview plays College Station A&M Consolidated. John Tyler plays Edcouch-Elsa, while Lee faces San Antonio Johnson.
