MESQUITE – Mesquite struck first but it was all Longview the rest of the way in the regular-season finale on Friday at Hanby Stadium.

After a field goal to go ahead 3-0, that was it for Mesquite as Longview rolled to a 61-3 win over the Skeeters to conclude the regular season and wrap up District 11-6A play.

Longview (9-1, 6-1) will face Beaumont West Brook in a rematch of last year's first-round playoff matchup at 7 p.m. Friday at Lobo Stadium in Longview. Mesquite ended its season at 1-9 overall and 0-7 in district.

Keilyn Williams had a pair of rushing touchdowns and led five different backs with scores in the win for Longview. Jaquan Edwards had a 21-yard scoring run and led Longview’s ground attack with 87 rushing yards.

Jordan Lawson, Juvarrs Lampkin and J’Kameron Riggins all had scoring scampers in the win for Longview, who led 31-3 at intermission.

Haynes King had two touchdown tosses with Jaylin Brown on the receiving end of both. King finished with 209 passing yards for the Lobos in the win. Brown’s scoring hauls went for 38 and 15 yards.

Chris Kessler tacked on a 41-yard field goal for the Lobos, who finish the scheduled season at 9-1.

Defensively, Longview came away with three interceptions, two from Jalen Carr.

Cantrell Jackson finished with 92 rushing yards to lead Mesquite, who got on the scoreboard first on a 33-yard boot from Iram Perez.

The rest of the way was all Longview.

Williams and Edwards one-two punch put Longview ahead 14-3 after the first quarter.

King and Brown connected on consecutive Lobo possessions in the second quarter and Kessler’s kick made it 31-3 in favor of the visitors at halftime.

Williams opened the third quarter with a 26-yard romp, his second of the night.

A misplayed kickoff from the Skeeters gave Longview a safety and Lawson had a two-yard keeper for a 47-3 lead heading into the final 12 minutes.

Riggins and Lampkin then closed out the scoring for Longview.
