Longview coach John King always emphasizes that senior safety Corey Bartley plays a lot bigger than his 5-foot-7, 155-pound frame.

King is never wrong about that, and Bartley made his coach's praise look smart once again Friday, when Bartley had a huge game in Longview's 52-3 blowout of North Mesquite.

The diminutive defensive back accumulated 10 tackles, two for loss, three interceptions, and three pass breakups to lead the Longview defense, and for his efforts, he's the ETSN.fm Dairy Queen Defensive Player of the Week.

Bartley enters Longview's District 12-5A contest at Tyler Lee on Friday leading the Lobos in  four statistical categories: tackles (95), interceptions (5), pass breakups (12), and kick blocks (4). Bartley also has one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, one punt block, and one defensive touchdown as he's making a serious case for all-state honors. He's three tackles away from matching his 13-game total of 98 tackles from 2011.

This week's honor is the second for Bartley, who earned the ETSN.fm Dairy Queen Defensive Player of the Week award in the season's second week. Bartley had 20 tackles and blocked a PAT and a punt. His fourth-quarter punt block resulted in a touchdown for Longview senior defensive end Jalen Porter that put the Lobos ahead 28-14 vs. North Little Rock in a 30-14 victory.
