Longview’s Zaycoven Henderson Receives Leadership Award at Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl
One of East Texas' five senior football standouts playing in all-star games this weekend earned a high honor Saturday night.
Longview head coach John King told ETSN.fm that Lobo defensive tackle Zaycoven Henderson received a leadership award for his entire team at the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl banquet at the Hyatt Regency Orange County in Garden Grove, Calif. Henderson and the West squad face the East at 8 p.m. Sunday at the StubHub Center in Carson, Calif., in a game FoxSports1 will televise.
Henderson will enroll at Texas in the coming days after a stellar career at Longview, where he helped the Lobos to back-to-back third-round playoff appearances as a junior and senior.
He had a breakout junior year in 2012, finishing with 48 tackles, 10 for loss, and two sacks. Henderson missed the first five games of the 2013 season with a foot fracture, but came back with a vengeance, recording 36 tackles, 13 for loss, and two sacks in the Lobos' final eight games to help them to an 11-2 campaign.
Henderson will join fellow Longview senior Dorian Leonard with the Longhorns, who hired Louisville head coach Charlie Strong over the weekend to replace longtime head coach Mack Brown.
