Lufkin Hudson’s Kelsee Selman Named TSWA Class 3A Player of the Year

Lufkin Hudson senior pitcher Kelsee Selman was voted Player of the Year on the Texas Sports Writers Association Class 3A all-state softball team.

Selman, who has signed with LSU, went 35-5 with an 0.89 ERA in leading the Lady Hornets to their second consecutive state title. She struck out 489 in 267 2/3 innings, an average of 12.8 strikeouts per seven innings. Selman also hit .394 with 12 homers, 10 doubles and 49 RBIs.

Jimmy Eby of Lufkin Hudson was also voted Coach of the Year.

In addition to Selman, six East Texas were voted to the first team: Henderson pitcher Tiarra Davis, Gladewater pitcher Katie Hickey, Mineola catcher Morgan Catron, Pollok Central first baseman Krissy Capps, Kilgore utility player Annie Mehringer and Lufkin Hudson outfielder Kaylee Parker.

There were also seven area players that earned second-team recognition. They were Pollok Central pitcher Katelyn Boles, Mineola pitcher Rikkilyn Hass, Lufkin Hudson first baseman Alyssa Dotson, Mineola second baseman Marisa Ledkins, Lufkin Hudson shortstop Bryli Lee, Gilmer outfielder Chelsey Alexander and Mineola outfielder Ali Galaz.

East Texans on the third team were Rusk pitcher Sydney Littlejohn, Mineola third baseman Jade "Sister" Green, Van utility player Sierra Nichols and Van outfielder Hallee Carter.

Hailey Dixon of Sulphur Springs earned a spot on the Class 4A third team.

Two area players were named to the first team in Class 2A -- Sabine utility player Jayden Mount and New Diana outfielder Jessica Hampton.

Second-team honorees from East Texas 2A players were Troup pitcher Josee Ross, Garrison pitcher Catherine Heflin, Elysian Fields shortstop Kaylee Prather and Elysian Fields outfielder Montanna Methvin.

There were four players from the area that made the third team. They were Redwater pitcher Katy Worrell, Troup catcher Katelyn Standley, Elkhart second baseman Courtney Cheatham and Elkhart outfielder Courtney Lindsay.

In Class A, two East Texans were voted first team -- Beckville first baseman Carley Lawhorn and Grapeland outfielder Shelby Frauenberger.

Grapeland pitcher Baylee Lumbreraz made the second team, while Grapeland first baseman Shelby Brunner and Beckville outfielder Montana Searcy earned third-team recognition.
