There was a point this season when things didn't look so promising for the Lufkin Panthers, who opened District 14-5A with a 49-21 loss to The Woodlands that dropped them to 4-3 on the year.

Senior quarterback Tyler Stubblefield is making that a distant memory by piloting Lufkin to six straight wins and a berth in the third round of the playoffs, the furthest the Panthers have gotten since 2005.

The 6-4, 200-pound Stubblefield passed for 327 yards ans seven touchdowns in Lufkin's 56-43 victory over Pflugerville over the weekend to earn ETSN.fm Dairy Queen Offensive Player of the Week honors for the second time this season.

He also added a 2-yard TD run in his team's second-highest scoring output of the season.

Stubblefield, who has signed to play baseball for Texas A&M, has passed for 3,076 yards and 35 touchdowns for the year.

Lufkin (9-3) faces Plano West (8-4) at 2 p.m. Saturday from Waco ISD Stadium in a Class 5A Division II Region II semifinal.
