One of the state's oldest rivalries is renewed this Friday night when Lufkin travels to Nacogdoches.

The Week 2 clash, scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday from Dragon Stadium, is the ETSN.fm + Dairy Queen Game of the Week.

Lufkin has dominated the all-time series, but Nacogdoches has won two of the last three meetings. The Panthers rolled to a 38-0 win last season, while the Dragons earned 28-24 and 38-35 wins in 2013 and 2014, respectively.

Each team is coming off impressive Week 1 performances.

Lufkin avenged a 2015 playoff loss by taking care of arch-rival Longview, 35-24, while Nacogdoches began the season with a 48-21 rout of Kilgore.

The Panthers are led by senior quarterback Kordell Rodgers, and a deep receiving corps headlined by Dhailon Phillips and Malik Jackson.

Nacogdoches counters with a balanced offensive attack, and a defensive unit anchored by cornerback and University of Texas commit Josh Thompson.
