Lufkin’s 24-0 Win Over Conroe Oak Ridge Cut Short Due to Weather
CONROE -- Lufkin scored 24 first-quarter points and lightning ended the Panthers' win early against Conroe Oak Ridge on Saturday, as the Pack took a 24-0 win in a District 14-5A matchup against former John Tyler coach Dereck Rush.
Lufkin (6-3, 4-1) quarterback Tyler Stubblefield threw three touchdowns in a four-minute span and the Panthers held Oak Ridge to minus-9 total yards of offense.
The game was called early in the second quarter after lightning remained in the area.
The Panthers secured a playoff spot in the win, and with a win Friday against Conroe, will secure second place in district. An A&M Consolidated loss would give Lufkin a share of the district championship.
Stubblefield threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to JaBryce Taylor, followed by touchdown passes of 6 and 37 yards to KeKe Coutee -- which he threw 2:09 apart.
Luis Garcia added a 33-yard field goal for Lufkin late in the first quarter.
Stubblefield completed 5 of 7 passes for 95 yards with three touchdowns and an interception.
Taylor caught three passes for 52 yards and Coutee had 43 yards on two catches -- both touchdowns. Kendrick Mapp led Lufkin in rushing with 30 yards on six carries.
