Lufkin’s Erik McCoy Picks Up Offer From North Texas

One of the schools most active in East Texas for the 2014 recruiting class extended an offer to a 2015 offensive lineman from the area on Friday.

North Texas became offer No. 5 for Lufkin offensive tackle Erik McCoy, who announced the offer from his personal Twitter account. McCoy adds the Mean Green to a growing offer list that also includes Arkansas State, Houston, Oklahoma State and ULL.

McCoy (6-4, 297) has attracted considerable recruiting attention after winning OL MVP honors at the Nike Football Training Combine in Houston earlier this month.

North Texas, a member of Conference USA, had a resurgence in 2013 by going 9-4 overall, 6-2 in conference and defeating UNLV 36-14 in the Heart of Dallas Bowl on Jan. 1.

The Mean Green had five East Texans become part of their 2014 signing class -- Carthage receivers Terian "Tee" Goree and O'Keeron Rutherford, Elkhart running back Jeffery Wilson, Sulphur Springs running back Willy Ivery and Pine Tree quarterback Caleb Chumley.

North Texas also has an offer out to 2015 Whitehouse cornerback Nate Brooks.

McCoy will anchor Lufkin's offensive line this fall as the Panthers try to build upon their 5-6 finish in 2013. The Panthers also have a pair of DIvision I-caliber receivers in Key'Vantanie "KeKe" Coutee (offers form Oklahoma, Texas and Texas Tech) and Terry Mark, who committed to Houston earlier this week.

Lufkin will be part of the new District 16-5A, which also includes Corsicana, Ennis, Jacksonville, John Tyler, Lindale, Nacogdoches and Whitehouse.
