Lufkin’s Jerrin Thompson Offered By Oklahoma

The fifth Division I FBS scholarship offer arrived Sunday for Lufkin 2020 defensive back Jerrin Thompson.

The Panthers' defender reported via Twitter that Oklahoma has offered.

Thompson (6-0, 170) also holds FBS offers from Arkansas, SMU, South Florida, and Vanderbilt.

He is tied with Longview QB Haynes King for third-most FBS offers among East Texas recruits in the 2020 class, trailing only Newton DE James Sylvester and Carthage ATH Kelvontay Dixon.

Last season, Thompson starred in the secondary for a Lufkin team that finished 11-3 and reached the Class 6A Division II state quarterfinals.

Thompson had 95 tackles (five for loss), four interceptions, seven pass break-ups, four forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries as a sophomore.

He is one of six current Lufkin players with Division I offers, along with DT Carl Williams (Arkansas commit), DE Breylon Garcia (Nevada), DE Javasia Brunson, WR Ja'Lynn Polk, and DB Damond McKelvey.

Oklahoma was a national semifinalist in 2017 under first-year head coach Lincoln Riley. The Sooners were Big 12 champions, and finished 12-2 with a loss to Georgia in the Rose Bowl.

Thompson, like all incoming juniors, is first eligible to sign with any program that offers him in December of 2019.
