Lufkin’s Key’Vantanie “KeKe” Coutee Picks Up Louisville Offer

Lufkin WR KeKe Coutee. (Christopher Vinn, ETSN.fm)

Key’Vantanie “KeKe” Coutee is back at the forefront of the East Texas college football recruiting scene.

The senior Lufkin standout picked up his fifth scholarship opportunity Saturday. Louisville has joined the chase for Coutee alongside Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Tulsa.

Coutee confirmed the news via his Twitter account.

The Cardinals, entering their first season in the ACC, have two other targets in the region. Bobby Petrino’s first-year staff has standing offers out for senior Nacogdoches cornerback Jaylon Lane, an Oklahoma State verbal commitment, and junior Nacogdoches safety Brandon Jones.

Coutee was previously committed to Texas.

There’s a lot to like about the Lufkin athlete. For starters, he ran a 4.49 laser-timed 40-yard dash a year ago at the inaugural ETSN.fm Football Recruiting Combine.

Coutee led a deep Lufkin pass-catching corps last season with 77 receptions for 1,034 yards and nine touchdowns.

Louisville finished the 2013 season with a 12-1 record and ranked No. 15 in the final AP Poll under former head coach Charlie Strong. The team’s lone loss came by three points to Central Florida, a team which went on to defeat Baylor in the Fiesta Bowl.

Petrino’s transition into the program should not be difficult. He was the Cardinals’ head coach from 2003 through 2006 prior to taking the Atlanta Falcons’ job and guided Louisville to a 41-9 record during that span.

Coutee will be eligible to sign with a college football program on Feb. 4.
