LONGVIEW -- The Arp Tigers had to wait an extra day to play their second District 9-2A Division II game of the season, but they wasted little time putting away the West Rusk Raiders.  The Tigers hit the ground running, scoring early and often in a 52-8 victory Saturday night at Lobo Stadium.

Arp sophomore Marcalas Johnson did almost all of his damage in the first half, leading the way for the Tigers (4-2, 2-0) with 125 yards and four touchdowns on only six carries. Senior Mikechell Potts was equally as impressive with 62 yards and one touchdown on four carries, although his most impressive play was one that didn’t count.

Following a second-quarter George Anthony touchdown run -- West Rusk's only score of the game -- the Raiders kicked off to Potts, who fielded the ball at his own 33, reversing field several times before finding the end zone on a highlight reel score. But the return was negated however when Potts’ flip into the end zone resulted in a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. The Tigers found the end zone four plays later for a 45-8 lead.

Arp's defense completely shut down West Rusk (1-5, 0-2), holding the Raiders to 46 total yards.

Arp didn't need its passing game. Quarterback Chase Bonner completed 2 of 3 passes for 75 yards and a touchdown, all of which went to Michael Roberson. Robertson added a score on the defensive side with a 19-yard interception return late in the first quarter.

The Tigers wasted little time in their scoring drives, putting together four first-half touchdown drives that were each less than a minute long.

The lone score of the second half followed a blocked punt by Arp’s Michael Berry, setting up Johnson for a three-yard score and the final tally of 52-8.

West Rusk’s lone bright spot was Anthony who, racked up 45 yards on 10 carries.

The Raiders travel to Hawkins next Friday night.Arp hosts Frankston.
