The search for the next Marshall athletic director and head football coach has proceeded with the first round of interviews complete, according to Marshall ISD communications officer David Weaver.

Weaver said the last of 12 applicants, selected from a pool of 109, was interviewed last week. Weaver added that the search committee has submitted a list of five candidates to MISD superintendent Dr. Marc Smith, who will conduct "a second round of one-on-one interviews to select a finalist for recommendation to the school board."

The original plan called for the new head coach to be recommended at the Feb. 18 school board meeting, but Weaver said logistical issues will likely push that back at least one week.

"Due to some logistical and scheduling issues this week, however, it is more likely that we will have a special session of the board the following week (week of Feb. 25) or, at the very latest, the first week of March," Weaver issued in a statement.

The new coach will replace Alex Richters, who went 3-17 in two seasons at Marshall.
