Shooting to avoid the dreaded 0-2 start in district, the Marshall Mavericks needed a win in the worst way last Friday night against Pine Tree.

The Mavs turned to their standout junior quarterback Justin Hart, and he delivered with a huge passing performance that got Marshall in the District 15-5A win column.

Hart is the ETSN.fm/Dairy Queen Offensive Player of the Week after completing 17 of 23 passes for 338 yards and five touchdowns in Marshall's 55-29 defeat of Pine Tree. He follows last week's winner, Alto junior quarterback Keenen Johnson.

In last week's win, Hart tossed scoring passes of 23, 34, 34, 15 and 10 yards -- all in the first half, helping Marshall (3-2, 1-1) snap a two-game losing streak.

For the season, Hart has completed 77 of 111 attempts for 1,006 yards with 11 touchdowns and three interceptions.

Hart and his Marshall teammates travel to Longview (3-2, 2-0) on Friday night to resume the state's third-longest rivalry. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. from Lobo Stadium.
