Lufkin junior QB/ATH Kordell Rodgers became the second Panthers prospect in the 2017 recruiting class to pick up an offer from McNeese State on Friday.

Rodgers (6-0, 175) announced the news via Twitter.

The Cowboys, who also offered Lufkin WR Dhailon Phillips on Friday, were the second team to target Rodgers, who also holds an FBS scholarship opportunity from Texas State.

McNeese State, located in Lake Charles, La., competes in the Southland Conference.

The Cowboys are coached by Lance Guidry, and are coming off a 10-1 season in 2015, which included a perfect run through the conference. The season ended with a 34-29 loss to Southland rival Sam Houston State in the second round of the FCS playoffs.

Rodgers helped guide Lufkin to a 7-3 regular season record and a Class 5A Division I bi-district round playoff appearance during the 2015 season. He sustained a minor injury midway through the playoff game and did not return.

Aside from a solid throwing season (2,133 yards, 23 TDs), the quarterback fits the dual-threat prototype. He gives his high school program a second threat in the running game (599 yards, 5 TDs in 2015).

Lufkin will be a member of District 12-6A this fall along with Beaumont West Brook, Conroe, Conroe Oak Ridge, Montgomery, The Woodlands, and The Woodlands College Park.

Rodgers, like all 2017 recruits, can officially sign with the school of their choosing on Feb. 1, 2017.
